Benno Meyer - English

Benno Meyer was born in 1878 as the son of Hermann Meyer and his wife Helene Schubert. His parents didn’t experienced the terrible end of their son, because both being deceased at that time due to a information from the year 1941. Benno Meyer was described as an architect or site foreman und lived in Magdeburg in Regierungsstraße right in front of the „Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen“. His brother Kurt lived in old town Magdeburg as well.  

 

In April 1937 he got arrested and confessed his homosexual affection during his interrogation. In the middle of the year 1937 he was sentenced to three years in Prison due to § 175 StGB by the lower regional court Magdeburg. He was brought to the prison in St. Georgen-Bayreuth and later was imprisoned at concentration camp Sachsenhausen in the beginning of december 1940.  

 

Benno Meyer was assigned as a „career criminal“ to penalty company „SK“, where prisoners had to test military shoes under difficult conditions. After a short time he got sick and was brought to the hospital building. At June, 5 1941 he was allocated to „Kommando S“ who was probably referred to „Transport S“. At June 4, 5 and 7 1941 269 selected prisoners were transported to the euthanasia-death camp Sonnenstein and killed with carbon monoxide.
